Butunay Hagverdiyev
Born in 1989 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He studied Fine Arts in Azim Azimzadeh Art College before continuing his art education in Moscow (2011–2012) at the British Higher School of Art and Design. However, as a teenager he was already an accomplished painter, having worked with a group of artists on the painting and restoration of frescos in an orthodox church from 2003–2008 in Baku.
Butunay Hagverdiyev’s extraordinary talent in drawing and painting brilliantly captures the depth of human emotion. When viewing his work, one can easily forget they are looking at a crafted painting, instead becoming immersed in the belief that they are witnessing an authentic reality brought to life by his skilled hands. Hagverdiyev masterfully portrays the essence of objects, especially rare Soviet cars, while creating an almost tangible sense of human presence. His artworks emanate harmony, reflecting the tranquil beauty of his cherished Absheron. This serene atmosphere is achieved through his exquisite manipulation of light, which perfectly conveys the peace he experienced during the creative process. The affection embedded in each piece resonates deeply, drawing viewers closer. In his landscapes, we are transported to the end of summer, where the subtle hints of autumn’s arrival linger in the air. Each of Butunay’s paintings serves not just as a visual experience but as an evocative declaration of love for Absheron, inviting us to appreciate its beauty.
